On Swan

Swan Street, Richmond
I only found out today that the Dimmey's building has been sold and the discount department store is closing down. How did I not know this earlier?! The building is heritage-protected....but if something happens to the mural along the Green Street wall, I will be very, very unhappy - as would the artist who has not long finished it, I would think.

8 hours work, rest and play

Labour Day Monument, corner Victoria and Russell Streets, which marks the successful campaign for an eight-hour working day in Victoria, beginning with stonemasons in 1856 and then extending to other trades. This is why it's a public holiday in the state today.

A lap of The Tan

Joggers, walkers and a few tourists throng the path around the Royal Botanic Gardens, known as The Tan Track or just The Tan. The nickname isn't an abbreviation of 'botanic' but rather a reference to the tan bark that used to line the path.

Timeless

The Nylex clock draws a blank (don't bother squinting this time, there's nothing to see).
At least the 'Men, "do it" longer' billboard has gone.
