Girl in New York: tanked

I developed a thing about photographing these tanks on top of many buildings in Manhattan, even in the central business district. We don't have them in Melbourne so they struck me as a little out of place - a rural sight in a big city.  I don't know if they're still actually in use.

So common are the tanks, I took photos of them without even trying:

  1. Are they some kind of header tank for hot water systems? Curious.

  2. hi there,
i was in nyc recently and was told that the water is pumped up and stored in these tanks at the top of the building in order to create good water pressure!
so yes, they are very much still in use.
